The Journal Receives University Award for Open Research

07-06-2026

We are delighted to announce that The Journal of Practice Theory has been awarded Lancaster University’s Elaine Sykes Open Research Award, which celebrates initiatives that advance open research practices and promote more equitable access to knowledge within and beyond academia.

The award was presented for the case study “Building Open Research Infrastructure: Establishing The Journal of Practice Theory through Open Journal Systems at Lancaster University.” The project highlighted the journal’s commitment to fully open access publishing, community-led scholarly communication, and the development of new open publishing infrastructure at Lancaster University.

The award also recognises the collaboration between the journal, the Centre for Practice Theory, and Lancaster University Library’s Open Research Team in establishing the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, which now supports a growing number of open access publications at the University.

We would like to thank all of our authors, reviewers, editors, readers, and supporters who have helped make the journal possible. This recognition reflects the collective effort involved in building an open, international platform for research and debate in practice theory.
