Call to Join the Editorial Board

Call to Join the Editorial Board

The Journal of Practice Theory invites expressions of interest from practice theory enthusiasts who would like to join its Editorial Board.

Launched in 2024, The Journal of Practice Theory is an independent and open-access journal dedicated to advancing the field of practice theory. Across its first two issues, the journal has published original articles and essays alongside interviews, debates, columns, and re-views that connect a wide range of interpretations of practice from across disciplines and research fields. The journal’s reach and readership continue to grow, while its commitment to open and accessible scholarly publishing has been recognised through a Lancaster University Open Research Award and its inclusion in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).

As the journal moves into its next stage, the Editorial Board seeks to expand and to broaden the range of intellectual, disciplinary, geographical, and editorial experience involved in shaping its future.

What does being an Editorial Board member involve?

The Editorial Board is an active part of the intellectual and editorial life of the journal. Members might contribute in different ways, including:

  • helping to shape the intellectual direction and future themes of the journal;
  • identifying emerging debates, questions, and areas with which the journal should engage;
  • proposing, developing or curating special sections and other collections;
  • working on particular sections of the journal (interviews; re-views; columns; essays, etc.);
  • proposing new or revised types of contributions;
  • supporting the peer-review process, including identifying reviewers and occasionally overseeing submissions;
  • contributing as a reviewer for the journal;
  • contributing to developing the journal's strategic direction and editorial processes;
  • helping the journal make connections with new research communities and international networks.

Who are we looking for?

We welcome expressions of interest from scholars developing, working with, or engaging critically with practice theory. We are particularly interested in broadening the Board across disciplines, theoretical traditions, substantive areas, geographical locations, and academic communities. We also welcome interest from colleagues at different career stages. Previous editorial experience is valuable but is not required.
