This Publication Agreement (“Agreement”) governs the written manuscript currently titled [INSERT MANUSCRIPT TITLE] (“the Article”), to be published in The Journal of Practice Theory (“the Journal”).
Parties to the Agreement
This Agreement is entered into by [INSERT CORRESPONDING AUTHOR’S NAME] (the Corresponding Author, acting on behalf of all authors of the Article, collectively referred to as “you”) and Stanley Blue, Editor-in-Chief, on behalf of The Journal of Practice Theory (“the Publisher”).
By signing this Agreement, you warrant that:
- You are authorised to act on behalf of all co-authors of the Article; and
- You have full authority to enter into this Agreement on their behalf.
- Grant of License
You grant a Creative Commons copyright license in the Article to the general public, specifically a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). This license is incorporated into this Agreement by reference and is further detailed at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode (summary available at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0).
- Attribution
You agree to require that any attribution statement for the Article includes a citation to its original publication in the Journal, satisfying the attribution requirements of the Creative Commons license.
- Retention of Copyright
You retain full ownership of copyright for all versions of the Article, as well as all rights not explicitly granted in this Agreement.
- Publisher’s Edits
Any edits made by the Publisher to prepare the Article for publication that qualify as copyrightable works are hereby assigned to you. Substantive edits will be verified with you prior to publication, and you agree that such edits fall under the CC BY 4.0 license referenced above.
- Warranties and Representations
You warrant and represent that:
- The Article is original and has not been previously published in any peer-reviewed journal, book, or edited collection, nor is it under consideration elsewhere.
- You are the sole author(s) of the Article, with full authority to make the grants in this Agreement.
- The Article does not libel any party, infringe any copyright, or violate any statutory or common law rights. You have made all reasonable efforts to ensure the factual accuracy of all content.
- All co-authors have reviewed the manuscript, consented to its submission, and agreed to its publication.
- No third-party publishers hold copyright claims that would prevent publication in the Journal.
- Any material reproduced from third parties complies with fair use principles, or necessary permissions have been obtained.
- Any data, images, or figures comply with the Journal’s licensing policies, ensuring that copyright is either owned by the author(s) or that the material is appropriately licensed for reproduction and distribution under the Journal’s terms.
You agree to indemnify the Publisher against any claims, damages, or expenses arising from a breach of these warranties.
- Ethical Compliance
You confirm adherence to the Journal’s ethical guidelines and ensure:
- The material is free from plagiarism and accurately represents the research;
- The list of (co-)authors meets the Journal’s expectations and Criteria for Authorship;
- Informed consent has been obtained for studies involving human subjects and vulnerable populations;
- Ethical integrity of the research is maintained in accordance with the Journal’s Statement on Publication Ethics.
- Additional Agreements
You agree that:
- Any subsequent non-exclusive distribution of the published version of the Article (e.g., posting in institutional repositories or inclusion in edited collections) will acknowledge its original publication in the Journal;
- This Agreement terminates if the Publisher does not publish the Article within one year from the date of your signature.
- Entire Agreement
This Agreement constitutes the complete understanding between you and the Publisher and may only be amended in writing. It will benefit and bind both parties, including assigns, successors in interest, and heirs.
